Summary
Just about half of Irish adults regularly use prescription medicines1. 1 in 8 of these prescription medications are supplied by the Israeli pharmaceutical giant Teva2. Besides trying to illegally extend its monopoly over the multiple sclerosis drug Coxapone in 20243, Teva is complicit in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians through its voluntary support of the Israeli military4.
The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (‘BDS’) movement designated Teva a priority boycott target in September 20255. This call was affirmed by over 700 Irish medical staff and consultants6. Health worker organisations including Irish Healthcare Workers for Palestine, Irish Pharmacists for Palestine, and the Psychiatric Nurses Association have organised to back the boycott.
Use the below resources to notify your pharmacy that you (and your household):
- Would like to avoid using Teva products where viable alternatives exist.
- Would like to the see your pharmacy become ‘Teva-Last’, meaning it would try its best to stock and dispense other suitable non-Teva medicines first, wherever reasonable alternatives are available.
Though Teva focuses on prescription products, they also make the over-the-counter products Sudocrem, Infacol, Exorex, Cetriz, Buplex, and Motusol7. If you use one or more of these, please consult a pharmacist or other reliable professional to find a suitable alternative.
